Defining your style at work, in the “white space” between incredibly formal and uber casual, can be very challenging. Keeping your signature look on either end of the style spectrum (from cocktail to denim) is fairly easy, but as a style blogger and style correspondent for ELLE, I’m frequently asked how to dress for work in an appropriate way that maintains a sense of individual style. To tackle this challenge, I’m spending time with real women at work, getting to know their nine-to-five lifestyle and blending it with style ideas for a realistic week at the office.

In this edition of Workbook, Lara Björk, art advisor of Artsy, takes me behind the scenes of the often closed-door art world to get a look at her on-the-go lifestyle and the versatile wardrobe her week at work demands. Focused on making the art world more accessible, Artsy is an art tech start-up with over four million users that suggests other artists based on those you already like (think Pandora for art). In her role, Lara works with everyone from first time collectors to some of the biggest names in the art world. Her day varies from meetings in her casual Tribeca office to formal gallery visits on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. “Being appropriate means a curated wardrobe that’s versatile enough to go from dressed down to dressed up in the same 15 hour day,” she says..
