Hurricane Dorian was a violent tropical cyclone that affected the East Coast of the United States. The fourth named storm, second hurricane, and first major hurricane of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, Dorian developed from a tropical wave on August 24 in the Central Atlantic. The system gradually intensified while moving toward the Lesser Antilles, before becoming a hurricane on August 28. Rapid intensification ensued, and on August 31, Dorian intensified into a Category 4 major hurricane. On the following day, Dorian reached Category 5 intensity, peaking with one-minute sustained winds of 185 mph (295 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 910 millibars (26.87 inHg) while making landfall in Elbow Cay, Bahamas, at 16:40 UTC. Dorian made another landfall on Grand Bahama several hours later, near the same intensity. The ridge of high pressure steering Dorian westward collapsed on September 2, causing Dorian to stall just north of Grand Bahama for about a day causing 5 deaths and living hundreds of people homeless and with nowhere to go; Dorian then weakened to a Category 2 hurricane by the next day. On the morning of September 3, Dorian began to move slowly towards the north-northwest. Dorian subsequently completed its eyewall replacement cycle and moved over warmer waters, regaining Category 3 intensity by midnight on September 5.
What happens to the Bahamas now?
The Bahamas has been affected with major destruction, it will take years for the islands to rebuild and be back to normal and things only seem to get worse. However citiziens of miami have been collecting thousands of donations both in cash and in items and have started sending them over. Also there are cruiseship lines preparing to depart to the Bahamas in order to provide supplies and food as well as donating almost a million dollars to the community ( which seems low comparing to the amount of money cruises make from the island) but something is better than nothing right?
Dorian Might be gone but now Gabriel is showing up, still in the atlantic ocean this new storm is one to watch for, remember to always try and help our brothers and sisters in such times of chaos and destruction. You can donate food and supplies or even money so there is really no excuse with trying to help each other. If we don’t work together we still die together .
