Qatar is no stranger to the fashion and luxe market. After investing a hefty amount into brands like LVHM, Tiffany’s, Harrod’s and Valentino’s, Qatar’s very own Qela came about.
Launched at Pearl, Doha in 2013 by the Qatar Luxury Group, Qela is designed for women with a sense of modesty who value craftsmanship. They also make one-off pieces and items made to order.
It may be the French artisans who are behind the creation of the items in the boutique, but the main objective is to increase the number of Qataris involved.
One way of doing so is to engage craftsman in Doha to design and make QELA’s purses, jewellery and clothes, and recruit fashion-minded graduates from the Qatar Foundation.
Qela draws inspiration Qatar’s tranquily vibrant natural landscapes, including themes of rippling dunes and the hues of desert sky at differnt times of day and night.
The brand reflects a mix of modesty, generosity and openess to new culture. This can be seen in their approach to fashion, which is minimalistially subtle yet rich in colours.
Qela is part of Qatar’s 2030 vision to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy by creating a fashion industry.
Fashionistas out there, keep your eyes on Qela! In the coming years, they’re planing to launch in the world’s most fashion conscious cities including New York, Milan, Paris and Hong Kong.
