If you haven’t yet been to the Cannes International Film Festival,  you are missing out on a wonderful experience of a lifetime!

The Festival International du Film, or FIF, as its known au francais, is as well-known for its glamorous, A-list-attended events, as for the quality and breadth of its jury-selected film programming.

To me, one of the most interesting aspects is observing all of FIF’s interesting goings-on through the eyes of the locals:  The hard-working ‘regular’ people who call Cannes home all year round, and not just for several weeks in May.

The locals’ attitude to the FIF is welcoming, and encourages visitors to adopt an “ask in order to obtain” approach to the festivities.  For example, I love to position myself in front of the Palais and watch people from all over the world, with signs written in English or in French:

Between the many film screenings, all the business- and deal-making, and parties and events to attend — not to mention levels of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) peaking for many during the days and weeks of FIF — attendees are often sleep deprived!  And yet, exhausting all the available possibilities of fun and business is impossible.

It’s tiring to have so much to do in so little time!  But during the Cannes Film Festival, it’s a good kind of tired.

So how about you?  Have you ever been to the Cannes Film Festival?  Share your experiences, tips and secrets on how to “do” Cannes right!

And if you haven’t been (yet ;), feel free to contact Vivienne for advice, suggestions and orientation.
